Things to pass along on updates

Lots to speak of in this post. First off if you have noticed that the menu on the left is getting very large and long. So in order to make things better for all, in the home section (1st menu on left) I have added the sections from the main sections, for example, the SkyWarn section was getting way, Way too large, in order to shorten the long list, I just made it into 1 link, 1 in the main top menu, and a link Directly below the top menu. When you click on that link, it will take you to that section, then you can use the dropdown menu to navigate to each link from there.

Second, because some of the subjects for ARES are sensitive in nature, not to mention section to include downloads, and a actual school to learn online, it will be placed into a Members section, with a login. not to worry, I carried over all your information from the club (aka those who are in ARES Only). with that said, it should be no problem logging into the members section itself. If you have a problem with a login, not to worry, you will gain access with the login page. retrieve your password, or reset it, can’t remember your username, easy, just provide it with your email. and it will send you the info.

3rd, I am talking with Danny about adding short classes for SkyWarn, to the regular ARES meetings, mainly because most all ARES people it is a Task Book requirement to have SkyWarn training, so aka, your a SkyWarn member who can help during the SkyWarn Net, when severe weather happens. This is from a whitepaper….

“The purpose of this document is to state the terms of a mutual agreement (Memorandum of Understanding) between National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) National Weather Service (NWS) and the American Radio Relay League, Inc. (ARRL), that will serve as a framework within which volunteers of the ARRL may coordinate their services, facilities, and equipment with NWS in support of nationwide, state, and local early weather warning and emergency communications functions. It is intended, through joint coordination and exercise of the resources of ARRL, NWS, and Federal, State and local governments, to enhance the nationwide posture of early weather warning and readiness for any conceivable weather emergency.” there you have it.

A good question was asked in the IARC club meeting about how may net controllers there are? There are 3, Danny is the Main person, who will take control of the net if a Tornado Warning is given. and he is the main contact to NWS Cleveland. the other 2 are Tom, and myself. between the 3 of us, we have enough people to run the SkyWarn nets. I will be giving out literature to members at the ARES meeting along with a shot talk session. I promise short, but good information to know when you are out in severe weather, and on the District 3 SkyWarn Net.

Getting back to the login, the online classes, and special sections to include downloads. As soon as I have completed the SkyWarn area, I will be adding a login on the front page. though right now, noting is hidden, but some sections are. and a good time for your to make sure you can login to the ARES site itself. So for now, this is all I have to share.

Brandmeister DMR Network to Stop Supporting Some DMR IDs

Beginning this summer, the Brandmeister DMR network will no longer support certain devices with DMR IDs that begin with the number 1. Hams utilizing the Brandmeister network with affected DMR IDs are encouraged to request a new ID from RadioID. Brandmeister is requiring their users to obtain DMR IDs that adhere to a Mobile Country Code (MMC) standard to help facilitate automated process that make up the Brandmeister network.

5-digit CAP+ IDs will stop working June 1st. 7-digit personal radio IDs starting with 1 will stop working January 1, 2026. Repeaters with 6-digit radio IDs starting with 1 will continue to work indefinitely.

Fram2Ham SpaceX SSTV Event Starts March 31st

Scheduled to launch on Monday March 31st, a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket will carry the Fram2 mission to space. Comprised of four astronauts, the mission is designed to take a polar orbit around Earth for a 3-5 day period. During that time, astronaut and amateur radio operator Rabea Rogge (LB9NJ/KD3AID) will be transmitting SSTV images from the Dragon spacecraft between 435 and 438 MHz. (A simulation conducted from the International Space Station in February occurred on 437.550 MHz utilizing mode PD-120.)

Fram2Ham is an experimental radio competition open to high school and university ages. Rogge will send pictures of three geographical locations via an onboard ham radio, but here’s the twist: they’ll be cut into pieces and mixed up! Participants will receive only fragments of the locations and need to guess where on Earth they are and what their role in polar history was.

Visit the Fram2Ham website for more information or join the Discord server.
